The Battle of Valmy

The French Revolutionary Wars were a series of military conflicts that took place both during and after the French Revolution. They began as an effort to defend the Revolution from outsiders but became wars of conquest. The first important engagement of these wars was the Battle of Valmy, a Franco-Prussian artillery skirmish fought in 1792. Though inconclusive, it revealed the superiority of French artillery. The Maze Prison Escape (1983)

Maze Prison was a high-security prison in Northern Ireland that housed incarcerated members of the Irish Republican Army during the Troubles. Quotation of the Day
We are, and must be, one and all, burdened with faults in this world: but the time will soon come when, I trust, we shall put them off in putting off our corruptible bodies; when debasement and sin will fall from us with this cumbrous frame of flesh, and only the spark of the spirit will remain.

Charlotte Bronte (1816-1855)

Unique Benefits to Being a Eunuch

Though it has largely fallen out of style nowadays, being a eunuch does have its perks. Researchers investigating the court of the Chosun Dynasty (1392-1910) found that its eunuchs lived an average of 14 to 19 years longer than their non-castrated counterparts. While some have suggested that their privileged lifestyle as members of the court could be responsible for the eunuchs' longevity, researchers point out that most eunuchs employed by the palace lived outside of its grounds and that the kings themselves, who spent their entire lives within the palace, only had an average lifespan of about 47 years, compared to the eunuchs' 70.
