In Greek and Roman mythology, the Hydra was a giant, multi-headed serpent-like monster that lived in the swamps of Lerna. Its breath and blood were toxic, and it terrorized the region for years. The goddess Hera had hoped it would kill Heracles, one of the many children her husband Zeus had fathered as a result of an extramarital affair. Howard was an American actor and comedian, best known as the leader of the Three Stooges. The fourth of five brothers, he never graduated high school and got into show business by running errands for performers. In 1923, he formed the vaudeville act accompanying Ted Healy that would later become the Three Stooges. Juneteenth (2017)

Although President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, it wasn't until two years later that the word reached the slaves in Texas. General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston on June 19, 1865 with the intention of forcing slave owners to release their slaves, and the day has been celebrated since that time in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and other parts of the Deep South under the nickname "Juneteenth." Weight Loss Surgery May Increase Alcoholism Risk

People who have undergone gastric bypass surgery may be more at risk of abusing alcohol than those who have had other types of weight loss surgery, according to a recent study. Out of approximately 2,000 patients of various obesity surgeries, the two-thirds who had had gastric bypass surgery—which reduces the size of the stomach in order to limit food intake—were found to be most at risk.
