The History of Wallpaper

Wallpaper was used in Europe in the 16th and 17th century as an inexpensive substitute for costly hangings. Outlines were block-printed, and the color was filled in with brush or stencil. The flock technique of printing designs with an adhesive and sprinkling with fine bits of wool or silk was probably first adapted to wallpaper around 1620 in France, but, by the 18th century, England had become principal wallpaper manufacturer. The "Beeching Axe" Decimates British Railways (1963)

In an effort to reduce the cost of running the nationalized railway system of the UK, the British government commissioned a report to find ways to save money. Authored by Dr. Richard Beeching, the report concluded that many of the railway's lines were costing more to operate than they earned and called for the elimination of unprofitable routes and closure of a large percentage of railway stations. Birthday of the Goddess of Mercy (2016)

The birthday of the Goddess of Mercy is a celebration of Kuan Yin, the Bodhisattva ("Buddha-to-be") of infinite compassion and mercy. Depicted as both masculine and feminine, and one of the most beloved of Buddhist deities, he or she is accepted not only by Buddhists but also by the Japanese, Chinese, and Koreans. Women especially celebrate Kuan Yin. In Malaysia, hundreds of devotees bearing joss sticks, fruit, flowers, and sweet cakes gather at temples dedicated to Kuan Yin to pray for her benevolence.
