Language of the Birds

In mythology, medieval literature, and occultism, the language of the birds is often considered a divine or magical language used by birds to communicate with the initiated. A wide variety of historical references to the language of birds exists: Solomon's wisdom is attributed to it, and Aesop, the legendary Greek fabulist, is said to have understood it. Der Rosenkavalier by Richard Strauss Premieres (1911)

Blocking Gene Could Stop Cancer from Spreading

Researchers have discovered a gene, called WWP2, that helps cancer spread by leading to the breakdown of an inhibitor, Smad7, which normally keeps cancer cells from spreading. When researchers blocked this gene in laboratory tests, levels of the natural inhibitor protein were boosted and cancer cells remained dormant. They believe that within the next ten years, drugs designed to interrupt the activity of this gene could be used to halt the aggressive spread of many forms of cancer, including breast, brain, colon, and skin cancer.
